Aerial Footage of Michigan Flood Damage is Hard to Comprehend

WDIV recently shared new aerial video footage that shows just how bad the flooding is in mid-Michigan. While watching the footage, you'll see why I say that it's so hard to comprehend.

Just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, a section of the Edenville Dam impoundment failed in the wake of heavy rainfall on Monday and early Tuesday in mid-Michigan.

It's not very often that you hear about life-threatening flash flooding in Michigan. Sure we get some flooding from time to time but nothing like this.

I was floored when I saw photos and video of the Rifle River in Standish too. According to MLive, the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department at 9:28 a.m. posted on its Facebook page advising those who live around Forest Lake and downstream from the Rifle River to leave their homes.

If you've ever been tubing or canoeing on the Rifle River, you know how shallow that sucker can get. Sometimes you have to actually push your canoe or get up and walk your tube because it's so shallow. That's not the case today after all of the flooding. The Rifle River now looks like something you'd go whitewater rafting down.

Our thoughts are with everyone that was evacuated, lost their homes due to the devastating floodwaters.
