Bo Schembechler’s Grave, Ann Arbor
Glenn Edward Schembechler Jr. got the childhood nickname "Bo" from his little sister. She was trying to call him "brother" but in her difficulty pronouncing the word, it came out as "Bo."
Bo was born on April Fool's Day, 1929 and passed away on November 17, 2006, at the age of 77.
After playing tackle for the Miami Redhawks in Ohio from 1948-1950, his coaching career began as an assistant at Ohio State. After several assistant positions, he finally became head coach in 1963 for the Redhawks. Then, in 1969, he began the job that made him a household name: head coach for the University of Michigan, a position he held for 20 years.
Over the years, he won thirteen awards, six of them being Big Ten Coach Of The Year.
Depending on where your loyalty lies, Bo was arguably one of the best (if not the best) Michigan football coaches of all time.
He was laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Ann Arbor. If you plan to visit his final resting place, do so with respect, as you should for all burial sites. Check out the pictures below.
