Just when you thought Ohio State couldn't get any worse, they go and do something like this. Oh, I'm sorry, THE Ohio State. Yes, you read the headline right, the university filed an application to trademark the word "THE" on Aug. 8.

They want to use the school's formal name—The Ohio State University—on merchandise and "protect" their brand. In the application, they asked for a trademark on the word "THE" for use on shirts, baseball caps and hats.

In the past, they've trademarked Script Ohio and The Show in association with the school as well as the names and likenesses of Woody Hayes and Urban Meyer.

If they get the trademark, fans who insist that you refer to the school as "The" Ohio State University will have the federal government backing them up. Personally, I think it's ridiculous, but that's just me. What do you all think?
