Chow Down: One West Michigan Man’s Quest To Complete 100 Food Challenges
You may have seen one on the menu of one of your favorite places to grab a bite, but most of us could only dream of completing a food challenge. However, Nathan Klein is not only defeating them left and right across Michigan, he's doing it to show just how awesome we are.
While Grand Rapids is known as Beer City, we also have an incredible amount of great restaurants. And every once in a while, one of them will offer you the challenge of eating an insane amount of their food in a limited time for bragging rights and a free meal.
Nathan was born and raised in Michigan. He attended Michigan Tech, and he now resides in Battle Creek. He decided last summer to dedicate his vacation time to completing as many of Michigan's plentiful food challenges as he can. At the moment? His goal is 100, and he's not far off.
Currently his fastest time is from October 17, 2019, at the recently closed J Gumbo's in Kalamazoo, MI. He did their Bayou Big Bowl Challenge in 2 minutes and 23 seconds (And currently holds their fastest record)
His first win was the 3lb burger at McGonigle's Pub in Battle Creek. (Pictured Below)
While he's taken on and defeated 66 meals so far, along his journey he's only lost two challenges. The Team Pizza Challenge at Fox's Pizza Den in Battle Creek, and The Randy Santel Monster Melt Challenge at Taphouse on the Edge in South Bend, IN.
But to be honest? We're jealous of how much amazing food he's put down so far, and here are some of the best meals he's taken on across Michigan.
