Drive-In Movies Come To Lansing
Kudos, Celebration Cinema! This is taking lemons and making lemonade.
Celebration Cinema in South Lansing has been shut down since the pandemic hit our area. Now they are going to re-open. If the permits come through, the theater plans to show drive-in movies in their parking lot. The movie screen itself will be made from massive shipping containers.
Watching a movie from your car is the best social distancing you can do. How fun for families! So many kids will get to experience what we got to do when we were young. Celebration Cinema will be showing "Black Panther" in their parking lot, which apparently holds 130 cars. For parents who have young kids, this is great because you don't have to find a babysitter.
The cost will be about 30 dollars per car, no matter how many you have crammed in. You can bring your own treats, or if you have been dying for some delicious movie theater popcorn, you're in luck. Celebration Cinema will be selling from their concession stand and the restrooms inside will also be open.
When you think of it, this is a great price. If we were to take our family, all 5 of us, it would be around $40. Then add in food and drink and it gets expensive.
My family plans to go the the movie Friday night. Yes I have seen Black Panther a few times, but I want to experience the fun of watching it from my car, like I did as a kid (but this time I won't have my pajamas on).
Hopefully if this takes off we can watch a double feature sometime. This a great way to help a local business stay open.
