Drive-In Theatre Set To Open In Downtown Detroit
Are you looking to get out of the house for a bit? Maybe you don't really dig the winter weather and would prefer staying where it's warm. Well, I've got good news. You can take a little trip to downtown Detroit to enjoy a drive-in movie. It kicks off this weekend with Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park."
Emagine Entertainment and Bedrock have teamed up to create a drive-in theatre, a block from Campus Martius on Monroe Street. The theatre has space for 65 vehicles and will feature a 60-by-32 foot projection screen.
Chief operating officer at Bedrock, Ivy Greaner says,
“Movies have always offered us a couple of hours to unplug and escape, and that has never seemed more important than now. The drive-in theater is our way of offering the community a way to get out of the house and safely enjoy a night out for the whole family.”
Tickets are $20 per vehicle. You can purchase your tickets in-person or online. Movies will play Thursday-Sunday starting at 7 p.m. now until spring. Showtimes will be released the week of. Here's a list of this weekends movies.
January 22: "Jurassic Park"
January 23: "Shrek"
January 24th: "Back to the Future"
What's a movie without some snacks? Obviously you can bring your own if you'd like or you can get food there. Mootz Pizzeria, Hudson Cafe, and Avalon Cafe and Bakery will have food and drinks available. You won't have to leave the comfort of your warm car to pick up your order, it will be delivered right to your car.
