Levels of E-Coli Found in Park Lake Are Concerning to the Health Department and Swimmers

Warm weather is finally here, and for most of us, that means it's swimming time. Michigan summers are the best kind of summers and one reason why is that we have lakes all over the state, and we are surrounded by Great Lakes.

When you go swimming in one of our amazing inland lakes, it is best to know what you are swimming in or with.

That being said, the state does testing on our inland lakes to make sure they are safe to swim in. WILX reports that recent testing on some lakes did turn up an issue in a Bath Township lake.

Park Lake was found to have a "concerning" level of E-coli in its waters.  Not enough to completely ban swimming, but enough to "strongly encourage" swimmers to avoid swimming in Park Lake for the time being.  Currently, it is okay to hit up the beach, the health department says just don't go in the water.

Some other lakes in Michigan you might want to try, for the time being of course, include a couple of the Great Lakes. Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are both awesome. Lake Superior is way too cold for me no matter what the time of year.

If you are going to be heading to another lake for some water fun, keep these in mind.  These lakes are considered to be the most beautiful lakes in Michigan.

• Torch Lake in Antrim County
• Higgins Lake (yay, my favorite) in Roscommon County
• Glen Lake in Leelanau County
• Silver Lake in Oceana County
• Crystal Lake in beautiful Benzi County.

Township officials are hopeful to have the E-coli problem on Park Lake cleaned up in no time and get you back to the summertime fun in Bath Township and all over Michigan.
