1975 has left the building. A festive crowd turned up in Detroit to ring in the new year and give the King of Rock and Roll his biggest audience.

In Michigan, we know rock & roll. Elvis Presley was rock & roll personified. Over the course of his career he performed 1,684 concerts but never played for a bigger audience than the time more than 60,000 fans packed the Pontiac Silverdome to ring in 1976. This was Elvis Presley's highest grossing concert, with his highest attendance.

He and the band played 22 songs and it's no surprise the show opened with "Also Sprach Zarathustra," better known as "2001: A Space Odyssey." A tidal wave of hits followed, including a medley of 3 of his biggest: "All Shook Up," "Teddy Bear," and "Don't Be Cruel." Just before midnight Elvis played "Love Me Tender" and then counted in 1976, followed by a rousing "Auld Lang Syne."
