WLNS.com is reporting that U.S. Department of Interior has denied a request from The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians to put two separate plots of land in Michigan into a trust that would allow the tribe to build casinos in Lansing and Wayne County.

But, the fight over a downtown Lansing casino isn't over according to the report. Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and tribal leaders have said they will continue to pursue proper legal action to allow for construction of a casino on land adjacent to the Lansing Center. Tribal officials say that flawed legal analysis led to the federal denial.
