Michigan summers often include campfires and smores. Campfires are a fun way to hang with friends and family at night. Are firepits legal in Lansing?

I lived in Lansing for almost 20 years before moving to Merifdian Township. I had a firepit in my backyard at my home. I used my firepit a lot and never had any issues with neighbors or the city. One thing I never considered was the need to have a permit to use a firepit in my yard. I always figured if it's an issue I will find out about it and ask for foregiveness. I was younger.

I have friends that live in the city of Lansing that have firepits. They use their firepits daily during the summer. So far there hasn't been any issues for them. I'm not sure if they have a permit for their firepit or not. With so many firepits that I know of in Lansing, it's got to be legal right?
