Michigan's annual free fishing weekend will take place this Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, 2014. Introduced in 1986, the free weekend allows anglers to fish Michigan waters without a license. All regulations for size and catch limits will be in effect!

More information on species regulations can be found on the MI DNR website.

The weekend also lends itself to some great community events that focus on some of the issues that face Michigan's natural resources.

One such event is the "Joe Scholtz Memorial Free Fish Derby", in St. Louis Michigan. The derby, named after a great friend and former Mayor of St. Louis, will host several different divisions by age and will be held Saturday from 9:00 AM - Noon at Leppein Park. More information can be found in the Morning Sun News article. You can also go to the official website of St. Louis, MI and get complete information here: www.stlouismi.com

This is a great opportunity to take someone fishing that may not be able to afford a license or has never been fishing. It's also a great way to introduce kids to the outdoors and the Great Lakes State of Michigan! -  Duran
