Trauma centers in Michigan are currently facing a blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations.  Healthy individuals are needed now to donate and to help patients who are counting on lifesaving blood.

If you give blood, Krispy Kreme will give you a dozen doughnuts. The Krispy Kreme website says,

"Give blood, and get a free original glazed dozen."

Until Monday, January 31, anyone who donates blood or platelets will receive a free Original glazed dozen. After you give blood, stop by your local Krispy Kreme for your free Original glazed dozen.  Just show your proof of donation and date via your donor band or sticker, or flash your donor app.

Versiti Blood Center spokesperson Kristin Paltzer told the Detroit Free Press,

"As far as Versiti is concerned, this is the lowest the blood supply has been in a decade for our organization, and many others, as well. Blood is needed for cancer patients, for patients that are dealing with sickle cell anemia, for mothers and babies that need transfusions before, during , and after childbirth. So there's a lot of reasons why people would need blood and without it, that can be a really dangerous time."
