Governor Whitmer Asks Michigan To Turn On Porch Lights For COVID Victims
First and foremost, if you have lost a friend or family member to the coronavirus, my condolences. You are not alone. To honor those who have lost their lives, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is asking Michigan residents to turn on our lights.
Tomorrow Michiganders are encouraged to turn on their porch lights from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The date, Wednesday, March 10th is significant because it marks one year since the first known cases of COVID-19 in Michigan.
I know there are plenty of people who do not particularly care for Governor Gretchen Whitmer. This is not about that, this is about remembering people who have died from COVID-19. I have been lucky enough to have remained healthy, and so have my close friends and family. That being said, I certainly feel for those of you who have not been so lucky.
Think about all of the Michigan residents could not even say goodbye to their loved ones. If turning on a porch light gives people dealing with loss some sense of peace, I am all about it.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan has lost well over 15,000 people to the coronavirus. Please show your love and support by honoring those we have lost tomorrow and turn on your porch light(s).
Please do not make this political, this is just about being a decent human being. We are all never going to agree on everything, but I hope we can agree to honor Michigan residents who have lost their lives to the coronvirus.
