It’s exciting news, we’re finally to the point where Michigan’s Governor Whitmer is ending the Covid-19 mandates we’ve been living under for well over a year. Originally the date was July 1st, but now we’re getting an early reprieve.

WOODTV reports

“Today is a day that we have all been looking forward to, as we can safely get back to normal day-to-day activities and put this pandemic behind us,” Whitmer said in a Thursday statement. “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the medical experts and health professionals who stood on the front lines to keep us all safe. And we are incredibly thankful to all of the essential workers who kept our state moving. Thanks to the millions of Michiganders who rolled up their sleeves to get the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine, we have been able to make these changes ahead of schedule. Our top priority going forward is utilizing the federal relief funding in a smart, sustainable way as we put Michigan back to work and jumpstart our economy.

The Face Mask and Gatherings order is being lifted, along with 8 other orders concerning the epidemic. Orders concerning long term care facilities, prisons, and agriculture will remain in place for the time being. The Governor’s office will release information on guidance for our schools next week. Michigan plans to continue free Covid-19 testing, and local institutions will need to keep reporting Covid-19 cases.

This will be a big relief to many in our state, especially those who did not believe masks were the right thing to do in the first place. Hopefully this will end the violence and negativity from people who did not believe in the mask theory. And now with it getting quite hot outside with summer weather already here, not having to wear a mask will make it cooler and more comfortable while around others.

Bottom line, this is a welcome sign the pain we’ve all suffered over the past
14 months is finally ending. Life is getting back to a more familiar normal. And I, for one, am very happy about that.
