On Sunday, April 12th, greater Lansing health officials reported no new deaths and only a small increase in new cases.

According to the Lansing State Journal, only eight new cases were confirmed and reported in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties on Sunday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services acknowledged, though, that the trend of lower case numbers could be caused by fewer tests conducted over the Easter holiday weekend.

While there were eight new cases reported on Sunday, the number of people hospitalized because of COVID-19 remained at the same 25 patients as before.

Looking on the bright side, the Lansing State Journal cites the Ingham County Health Department, reporting 60 people in the area have recovered from the virus.

For those wondering, "How do officials consider a person 'recovered'?"

If the patient has been without a fever for 72 hours or without symptoms for seven days, they are assumed to be recovered from COVID-19.

The good news from today's numbers is met with caution in a message from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), however.

“Single-day fluctuations in the number of confirmed cases may not be significant," MDHHS said. "As a number of external factors can affect data reporting."

Just days after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer extended the "stay home" order, this is good news and as we have all been saying, we are in this together and just have to take it a day at a time.
