My daughter has Down Syndrome. We are so lucky to have her. When we found out we were having a baby, we had a test done to see if it was a boy or a girl. They called us to tell us it was a girl AND she was 95 percent likely to have Down Syndrome. The next thing they offered was a termination date. If you didn't know, 70 percent of Down Syndrome babies are aborted in America. In other countries, it is much higher.

I can't imagine my life without my "special needs" daughter. The only thing special about her is she needs love just like any kid. Love, understanding and support.

Since having her, my eyes have been opened to the special needs community and the many challenges these kids face. Mostly, it's rude people. So, if you are handing out candy this year, try to keep things in perspective.
