Historic Walter French Catches Fire

It was just designated as an historic site in 2014. Now, the former Walter French Junior High School's future may be uncertain after fire crew battled a fire there for more than five hours Thursday night. WILX.com reports that the fire began around 5:00pm this evening. Crews had it extinguished around 10:00pm.

WILX reports at least five fire trucks working to battle the flames and smoke visible from the vacant building's second story. Roadways around the former school, including Cedar and Mount Hope, are noe back open to traffic.
