The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced the revised playoff format for the 2020 football season on Friday.

Almost every team that is playing football this fall will qualify for the playoffs.  Each of the eight divisions of 11-man football will feature 64 teams (or close to it) in the field.  And both divisions of 8-man football will have 32 teams in it.

With nearly 80 teams playing 8-man football, not everyone will make the postseason.  But teams who don't make the playoffs will be allowed to play a seventh regular-season game with another squad who didn't make it in.

The MHSAA Playoffs begin the weekend of October 30th-31st.  The 8-man state finals will be Thanksgiving weekend (November 27-28) and the 11-man finals will be on December 4-5.  Ford Field in Detroit and the Superior Dome in Marquette will not host the finals this season.  All finals games will be played at other neutral sites yet to be determined.
