I’m Sorry, You Mix Your Vernors With WHAT!?
Vernors Ginger Ale will always have a place of comfort in my heart, but I'm not sure I can drink it this way.
If you're like me, it was a treat when you were sick to have a bottle of Vernors to ease your discomfort.
Not that there's anything scientific involved here, it was just always the go to soft drink when I got sick as a kid. I believe the tradition was handed down by my dad.
It's important to point out here that my great aunts used to mix Vernors with their low end whiskey, probably to ease the nastiness of the taste of Old Crow, although as a young adult, I found this drink to be mostly miserable, as the aged oaky taste of the Vernors collided too much with the cheap whiskey, resulting in a different kind of sickness.
And now comes this Vernors mix idea via the TikTok feed of a guy called 'The Michigander', which is a pretty good follow, as he usually delves into Michigan topics.
Since Vernors is a mostly Michigan thing, he recently received a message from a person who said it was tradition in his family to mix Vernors with Orange Juice.
What!?
The Michigander gave it the old taste test, and seemed to approve, but I have my doubts.
It just seems like it would be WAY too sweet.
Others have come forward to suggest other Vernors mixes, including this one -- a shandy made of Vernors and Leinenkugel Beer. Yikes!
And before I go, here's another little gem from The Michigander, choreographing driving around pot holes to the Cha Cha Slide.
