It Wouldn’t Be Opening Day Without Ernie Harwell
As the Tigers get ready to face Minnesota today for opening day, we remember the great Ernie Harwell. I could go on all day talking about Ernie. Great broadcaster, great HUMAN and he find a way to paint a pretty visual picture with the microphone. He was a master of words. This is a speech Ernie gave at the 2002 at a Dr. Pepper Rangers Luncheon, in his 55th year of broadcasting. It wouldn't be opening day without Ernie!
This speech also ended a year long argument between Deb and I over the pronunciation of Honus Wagner. Deb has said for years it was Honus, like bonus. Ernie Harwell proved her wrong. Thanks to Bruce Cook for posting this on his Facebook page today.
