We can all remember the days of pulling a ticket, walking to the counter, gathering your paperwork and sitting in those uncomfortable chairs until your number was called. This was the unfortunate practice of sitting at the DMV or Secretary of State to handle a number of different registration purposes. COVID-19 changed this process a lot as the shutdown and social distancing required a new process.

The old days as we once knew them have forever changed as most things you needed to visit the Secretary of State for can now be done online or you can set an appointment to go in, which makes the waiting process much shorter because only so many appointments can be made. Now, they offer a new service to the residents of Michigan which makes it even easier to get these things handled.

Getting to the Secretary of State can be a challenge for some people as they don't have their own or reliable transportation, their work hours interfere with the business hours of the SOS, or a plethora of other reasons, which means they either have to sacrifice something or roll the dice. The new initiative brought forward by the state of Michigan will relieve some of that pressure for them and make this process accessible to all.

The Michigan Secretary of State now has mobile offices that are present throughout the state. The mobile offices are brought to the communities of Michigan residents by organizations that choose to partner with the SOS and provide them a space to hold a clinic. Currently, there are 7 mobile Michigan Secretary of State offices, and they serve the following areas:

  • Southeast Michigan
  • Macomb County
  • Mid-Michigan
  • Great Lakes Bay region
  • West Michigan
  • Northern Michigan
  • Upper Peninsula

If you're looking for a mobile unit check with businesses within your community or pay attention to social media as both the Michigan Secretary of State and the partnering business will be sharing information on the clinic.
