Whether we want to admit it or not, most of the things we try in life come from someone endorsing said product or experience to us. Humans value the opinions and reviews higher than we might think as the human word is something we take very seriously. Think about it, if you ask a group of people about a retail store and they all scrunch their face and disapprove, you're probably going to find a new retail store, right? I know I surely would because I wouldn't want to take the chances of having a similar experience.

Restaurants are no different and are arguably more of a concern than something like a product or retail store receiving bad reviews. Reviews have become something that we see in social media posts, videos, and even online reviews like google and Yelp. I would be crazy to say that we have been conditioned to review everything in our lives but if you take a look at it, that's not all that crazy considering whether the experience is great or awful, one of the first things we want to do is leave a review or tell as many people as possible. Sometimes those reviews are on the positive side but that is less likely than negative reviews, so which Michigan restaurant has the best reviews on Yelp?

Yelp is one of the go-to websites for people to search for the best of whatever it is they are seeking. Yelp is based upon people sharing their real-life experiences through online reviews to let other possible patrons what their experience could be like so that they are aware. Most of the time people like to leave reviews when they are not pleased with their experience, but everyone once in a while we see positivity.

So, what restaurant do the people of Michigan considered to be the number 1 overall restaurant in the entire state. Yelp says that Houndstooth Restaurant in Benton Harbor, Michigan that has a revolving menu based upon food availability, mood, and season is the best in the state. The owners created Houndstooth with the idea that they would help people change the way they think about food.

Here's a snippet from the owners James and Cheyenne about Houndstooth:

If you are open to changing how you think about food, then you are in the right place. We believe that food is a constant evolution. Our menu ebbs with the season, with our mood, pretty much when we feel like it. Using a combination of familiar ingredients, our menu marries unique presentations and influences from our travels to our childhoods. We want to take the pretense out of fine dining and create an inclusive experience. We are thrilled to extend to you an invitation to experiment with us, and see “our side of the kitchen”. With an open floor kitchen and bar concept, we want you to fully immersed in the energy of the kitchen. We are not just here to cook. We are here to have fun, celebrate, maybe even cry a little. You are all friends at our table.

The menu will consist of a combination of shareables, snacks, desserts, big plates and a through selection of wine, beer, spirits, and other beverages. Like mentioned above, the menu does change all the time which would mean your favorite item may only be available for a few months out of the year. Nonetheless, here's what Yelp had to say about Houndstooth:

A must try!!! Last Saturday night, the hubby and I decided to try this place out for dinner, kind of last minute. We didn't have reservations, and the place was packed. Graciously, some chairs were moved around to a little table in the only corner open, and we were able to dine. Everything about this little spot was perfect. From the warm welcome and effort by the hostess to the excellent service by Ligan and a tasty and inventive dinner. We had the short rib tartar, shrimp, bbq carrots, stuffed wings, and Poole. Everything had a unique twist, presented beautifully, and provided a wonderful carnival of flavors for the palate. Oh, and I mustn't forget the lavender drink. Delightful- T.A

The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The staff were courteous and friendly. I highly enjoyed my meal and would recommend to anyone- Amanda C.

Love to see more of these restaurants popping up in SW Michigan! The food, cocktails and service were fantastic. From the buttery milk toast garlic bread, the amazing steak and potatoes, all the way to the passionfruit panna cotta, Houndstooth didn't miss a beat. I can't wait to go back and try more! If you're sick of eating at copy/paste restaurants, you def won't be disappointed. 5/5- Autumn Y.

Those are only a few of the ravaging 5-star reviews that were left on the Houndstooth Restaurant's yelp page as visitors were thoroughly pleased with their meals and service. I couldn't imagine that the best restaurant in the state would be in Southwest Michigan, let alone Benton Harbor, but now I need to make a trip.
