Best Places In Michigan’s U.P. For Whitefish
If you are going to the Upper Peninsula and plan on getting some whitefish, why not learn the best places to enjoy that delicacy from the Yoopers that live there?
What is Whitefish?
Whitefish has a lot of history in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Whitefish helped settlers survive when the French arrived in the 1600s.
Early explorers discovered whitefish to be a great food source and many agreed it is the most delicate fish in Great Lakes. Explorers liked the fish so much that they named Whitefish Point after the fish and eventually built the Whitefish Point Lighthouse to help guide ships to safety in the dangerous waters of Whitefish Bay.
One of the most popular ways to prepare whitefish is to smoke it. It is hard to find a store or a gas station in the U.P. that doesn't have smoked whitefish available. Have you ever wondered where the best places to get whitefish in the U.P. are? Let's find out what some Yoopers have to say.

Best Places In Michigan's U.P. For Whitefish
Recently on the Upper Peninsula Reddit page, a poster asked "Where's your favorite spot for Whitefish?" Let's find out what the Yoopers had to say.
Right out of the gate Peterson Fish Market Restaurant in Hancock came up and a few posters immediately chimed in and agreed. Another poster suggested the American Legion Fish Fry in Hulbert is an exclusive on Friday from 5-7 p.m. Captain Ron's food truck came up a couple of times and you can find it in Munising.
I will be heading to the U.P. to bear hunt this fall and you better believe I will be using this thread for a whitefish food stop. That charbroiled whitefish dinner at the Cut River Inn in Epoufette sounds amazing.
My favorite post came for the poster "YooperExtraordinaire" which simply said "My Kitchen."
If you get to the U.P. this thread will come in handy plus you might know a few spots that didn't make the list you can post here.
