While we all look forward to the summer, there is one part of summer no one enjoys: all the road work. It's a necessary evil, but it's definitely one that affects everyone. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has revealed the schedule for all the major projects this summer, so now is the time to mark your calendar so you can plan ahead.

The Projects You Need To Know About

This will be a busy and big summer in terms of construction. The major projects will be on the state routes (US, M, and I routes). These projects are considered major due to the amount of rebuilding taking place, with two of the projects not expected to be finished until the end of 2026.

These are the projects MDOT will be highlighting, and also the ones you should know about:

US-131:

This is a project we have already covered in detail and is expected to begin in April 2024 (if you haven't already noticed the signs along the highway). Here's the short version:

  • Rebuilding US-131 from 100th St to 76th St.  (April 2024-winter 2026)
  • Bridge improvements over Plaster Creek and concrete repairs from M-11/28th St. to Pearl St. (April-May)
  • Rebuilding NB US-131 ramp to I-96 and M-37 (May-October)
