Two Michigan Locations Ranked Among Top Ten Best Small Towns in the Midwest
When it comes to the Midwest, which small town is best? That's what a new national poll is aimed to find out - and two Michigan locations made the top ten!

The Best Small Midwestern Towns 2024
USA Today and 10best's panel of experts narrowed it down to 20 Midwest spots that are some of the most charming, scenic, and historic small towns in America. Great for vacations, these locations offer relaxing getaways, cultural adventures, and family-friendly activities.
Each town has a population of fewer than 25,000.
Then it was put up to a public vote to determine the top ten best small towns in the Midwest.
Two Michigan Towns Voted Among Top Ten Best Small Midwestern Towns
One of the Michigan locations in the running for "Best Small Town in the Midwest" was Traverse City.
TC has been getting a lot of love in recent polls! It was just voted the No. 3 Best Small Town Beer Scene.
Travers City came in as the No. 8 Best Small town in the Midwest! Quite an honor, though the other Michigan small town in the running did even better...
USA Today says TC showcases the beauty of Lake Michigan and the wilderness that surrounds it, pointing out the many things to enjoy there:
- Close proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes
- Wine
- Cherries
- Outdoor year-round activities
The other Michigan town in the running?
Petoskey has been named the No. 4 Best Small Town in the Midwest!
USA Today praises Petoskey for its natural beauty and location on Lake Michigan and also points out some lovely spots to enjoy while there:
- Sunset Park
- Bear River Valley Recreation Area
