Michigan DNR to Hold First Ever Free Snowmobiling Weekend
Michigan already offers Free ORV and Free Fishing weekends each year - and coming up soon a new Free Snowmobile weekend!
Michigan DNR Announces Free Snowmobiling Weekend
Next month, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will debut its free snowmobiling weekend. Snowmobilers will be able to operate their machines over a two-day period needing a snowmobile registration or trail permit.
The dates for the free snowmobiling weekend are Feb. 11-12, 2023.
Ron Olson, chief of the DNR Parks and Recreation Division says,
Free Snowmobiling Weekend is a great opportunity for those that haven’t dusted off their snowmobiles to jump on the trails. It’s also a great time for out-of-state visitors to come explore thousands of miles of trails found in the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
While the requirement of a license, registration or trail permit is suspended, operators must still adhere to all regulations and rules governing these activities.
Michigan's more than 6,000 miles of State-designated snowmobiling trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and trail grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground. The snowmobile program is 100% funded with trail permit dollars.

When are Michigan's Free ORV and Free Fishing Weekends?
Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend dates for 2023 are: Feb. 18 and 19 and June 10 and 11. All fishing license fees will be waived for two days.
The two Free ORV Weekends will take place June 10-11 and Aug. 19-20, 2023. Residents and out-of-state visitors legally can ride DNR-designated routes and trails without purchasing an ORV license or trail permit.
