If Your Watermelon From Michigan is Foaming You Probably Shouldn’t Eat It
When it comes to summer, watermelon and sunshine go hand and hand.
Whether you're enjoying it by the slice or spiking it with a bottle of your favorite vodka, it's the perfect way to cool down without having to add a bunch of calories to your diet.
And while I'm no expert, if you walk up on your watermelon and it's foaming like it has rabies, you probably don't want to eat it. But, I'll let the experts explain why....
That's right, if your watermelon is foaming, it means it's likely fermenting and not in the good way. (this isn't how you make watermelon wine...)
Fermentation of watermelons is common. If you leave a watermelon sitting out in the sun for long enough where it's warmer than it should it be, it may start to change like this.
When it does, don't eat it as with those warmer temperatures it can also be a great host for things like E.Coli or something. (Which is not the vibe you're trying to catch this summer)
And here are some other unique watermelons you may come across in the wild...
Hollow Heart Watermelons
They're weird looking, but experts say that they're perfectly fine to eat, so don't panic if you crack yours open and it looks like this
Square Watermelons
These are just grown in a sepecific way that makes them a unique shape. While you'll mostly only find these if you visit Japan, they really aren't that different from the ones we have here in the US.
Rainbow Colors of Watermelons
These are another form of Bonsai watermelons, and while they may look alarming, they're totally safe to eat. However, you may not be able to find these easily in stores, but you can buy seeds online if you dare to grow your own.
