Train Rolls Over Man On Tracks and He Lived!
We've heard of some amazing stories of narrow escapes, stunts gone bad, and horrific traffic accidents where people lived, but this may take the cake.
Fox17 reported that a 20-year-old man was sleeping on train tracks in Ann Arbor when a freight train approached. He must have been deep asleep because he didn't hear a thing as the train rolled over him. YES, rolled over him. Do you think alcohol may have been involved?
This happened last night in Ann Arbor, and fortunately, the train was traveling at a very slow speed. The driver realized that he had just run over a person and he was under the train as he quickly brought the train to a halt.
Now what do you do? There is someone under a train that has just rolled over him. Is he dead, cut in half, what?
No, shockingly, no major trauma because he had been lying between the rails. That is except for his hand caught in the rear axle of the front part of the train. Well, that woke him up for sure!
So now the scramble begins. How do they get his hand released and get him to a hospital?
The Police Department, Fire Department, and EMTs worked for quite a while trying to get his hand free but no luck. This is a big old train, don't you know, and it's a tough piece of equipment to try to pry, break, whatever, to release a man's hand. That's not exactly in the rescue "handbook!"
The Ann Arbor Police Department finally decided to bring a surgical team from a local hospital in case they needed to amputate the hand on the scene. Yuck!
Good news, however. It took nearly two hours, but the rescue crews were able to free his hand.
Off to the hospital he went where he is in stable condition.
Was this about as odd a rescue as they have ever had? The Ann Arbor Fire Department said:
"This was a once in career incident for those involved."
That's for sure! When you think of Man versus Train, chances are Train wins!
