With those last-minute summer blowouts on the way, you'll want to avoid heading to this Michigan lake.
Avoid Heading To This Great Lake
As Michiganders, we don't have the ocean to take a dip in. Instead, we go to the lakes that surround us.
There's one Michigan lake you'll want to avoid heading in, as you might get a bad case of swimmer itch.
If you're headed to Lake Superior, you might want to proceed with caution, as swimmer's itch has been caught a lot lately in the lake.
Now, I know what you're thinking, Superior is a little too cold to take a dip in. However, swimmer's itch is possible in any of the lakes, especially with ones where birds are around. Ducks especially.
What Is Swimmers Itch? And How Do You Avoid It?
Swimmers Itch is pretty nasty. You basically have a ton of parasites in your skin and they stay there until your immune system kills them off. The itching, from what I've heard too, is awful.
There are some ways to avoid swimmers' itch. The best way is to keep the towel off after swimming. Keeping a waterproof barrier will keep them from burrowing into the skin. Some other things to try are baby oil or the over-the-counter Swimmers Itch Guard.
