It’s only a matter of time in Michigan before we all get sick and are forced to take a couple of days in bed to recuperate. When you’re sick, there’s nothing like having the comfort of your dog or cat to be there with you to get you through the sickness.

But what if you and your fur baby are both sick from the same issue? That is something that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is warning about, as a highly contagious disease has been spreading in Michigan that can be caught by both you and your pet.

The disease is the rapidly spreading HPAI or as it’s more commonly known, the avian flu. The avian flu has been rapidly spreading throughout Michigan, which has been one of the main reasons we have seen egg prices get so high lately.

According to the DNR, we have seen the avian flu affect mammals in Michigan, including 16 wild animals.

How Is The Bird Flu Spread?

The most important thing to keep an eye on is when you let your dog outside. HPAI is spread through the droppings or nasal discharge of the birds that are infected, which contaminates anything it touches.

This is also something that people can carry on their shoes, clothes, equipment, and cars. So it’s very important to make sure that if you have an animal in the house, they aren’t licking your shoes, especially since this virus is out of control in Michigan.

The last thing you want is to get you and any of your loving pets sick. You can click this link to go to the DNR‘s website to get all the information on the disease.
