Do Ohio’s New Snowplow Names Match Up To Michigan’s?
Last year, Michigan got an upgrade in the names for snowplows. It's an honored tradition, that makes following the plows a lot more fun during particularly heavy Winter events.
Michigan released more than 70 new names last year, but apparently, Ohio felt left out, and came up with some new names of its own! So it begs the question... which state has the better snowplow names, Michigan or Ohio?
First thing to point out, Ohio has a substantially smaller snowplow fleet than Michigan. Parts of Ohio don't see NEAR the amount of snow that Michigan does on an annual basis. That being said, areas up along the Great Lakes still see a substantial amount.
Snowplows are an important part of the Midwest, so this is a lot of fun.
Alright, down to the debate... WHO has the better snowplow names? To do this, I'm going to take the eight best names from Michigan's latest list of names from 2021 and compare them to the eight new names submitted by Ohio.
Michigan
- Barry Salt-and-Sanders
- Betty Whiteout (RIP)
- Buzz IceClear
- Ctrl Salt Delete
- Kalamazoo Canoe
- Machine Plow Kelly
- Plowabunga
- Snow Diggity
NOTES: I appreciate the localization with the Barry Sanders reference, and literally naming one of them after the town you're in. Points against Michigan, though for the Machine Gun Kelly reference.

Ohio
- Blizzard Wizard
- Plow Chick A Plow Wow
- You're Killin' Me Squalls
- Ctrl Salt Delete
- The Big LePlowski
- The Blizzard of Oz
- Ohio Thaw Enforcement
- Clearopathra
NOTES: Yes, you read Ctrl Salt Delete twice. Both states now have a plow with the same name. Ohio's newly named "Clearopathra" is ALSO a duplicate of an older plow name in Michigan... but Michigan did them first, so points against there. HOWEVER, the Creativity of The Big LePlowski, and You're Killin' Me Squalls are great (Though, I think Michigan might ALSO have a Big LePlowski, but that's unconfirmed at the moment).

So... who do you think has the more creative plow names? Ohio, or Michigan?
