Lent is upon us, which means on Fridays, many people in our community do not take part in eating meat, and will turn instead to veggies and seafood. It may not seem so hard to find some good fish to eat around town, but obviously, some places are better than others.

So, if you're gonna partake, why not go for one of the most famous fish dishes, and pick the best spots in town to eat it.

I remember going to school in a predominantly Catholic town, and at school, every Friday, they would forego the square Pepperoni Pizza and "Bologna Boats," for one of two dishes - Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup, or fish sticks.

But there was ONE time they tried something different, and truth be told, missed the mark pretty bad. Our cooks wanted to change it up, and actually made Fish and chips, which ended up being a square, fried fish patty, with soggy, crinkle fries on the side.

I never ran to the vending machine faster in my life.

Not that I don't love fish and chips, but this was NOT ok, AND, they didn't even provide the lemon or vinegar that comes with it.

Needless to say, it left me wanting, and if I'd had the opportunity to leave campus for a much better version of that swill they tried serving us, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat.

So, since it is Lent, and fish is largely on the menu, I've put together a list of the X best spots in the Kalamazoo area to find Fish & Chips... FAR superior to what they tried serving us in school.
