Why Travelers Were Too Scared to Stop at This Roadside Tourist Trap
I find it incredible that so many people were afraid to visit here!
Honest Injun’s Tourist Trap was alongside US-2 in the Upper Peninsula, containing many Native American-made items, artifacts, and souvenirs. It has been closed for a few years, more than likely because of the lack of tourist trade.
Those who visited stopped to search for unique items and hidden collectables. The hundreds of items were referred to by the owner as "my junk and your treasure for a price".

However, according to a handful of travelers who happened by, they were afraid to stop because it looked creepy. Some comments on Facebook included were:
“I have always wanted to stop but my brain says to keep moving.”
“I’ve always wanted to stop but haven’t got the courage.”
"It looks like a serial killer lives there.”
"It looks like a place a serial killer would set up to sell souvenirs and such.”
"It looks like a horror movie set.”
"It looks like a Rob Zombie set piece. Like a family of homicidal cannibals would live there.”
Notwithstanding, plenty of people did indeed stop, visit, make purchases.....and they made it out alive. No stab wounds, no teeth marks, no voodoo...not even a bad experience. It was simply a quirky little Michigan Roadside stop owned by someone trying to eke out a living with some cool things for sale.....and many people walked out with true treasures.
Even with the term “injun” in the name, it didn’t seem to offend anyone. Like most UP roadside stops, it eventually closed down after 2023.
The building has been renovated and doesn’t look like the ramshackle souvenir stop it once was...now it looks sharp and residential. Photos are below...
