Let's start by defining phroggers. These people live in occupied homes and take over rarely visited spaces, such as basements and storage areas. On Tuesday morning, January 28th, 2025, a Jackson, Michigan, mother, Ashley Strong, learned firsthand the terror of finding and confronting a stranger living in your home.

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, only to realize that someone has been living in home, just feet from you and your daughter.

"It Wasn't My Boyfriend's Voice That Answered"

Strong awoke at 6 a.m. and noticed that her attic ladder was down. She assumed that her boyfriend, David, had come home early from work, so she climbed a couple of steps up the ladder and called out. The voice that answered—wasn't David.

According to WSYM, who spoke with Strong after the incident, the stranger then reached behind his back and into his waistband. Fearing the phrogger may be armed, she rushed down the ladder, grabbed her daughter, and ran outside, where she called authorities.

Strong told WSYM that when the police arrived, they had to use force to remove the man who had taken up residence in her attic. The intruder has been charged with home invasion and assaulting a police officer.

As for Strong, she's more than a little freaked out and admits it will take a long time before she feels comfortable in her Jackson, Michigan, home again, telling WSYM, "Right now, it doesn't. At all...It messes with you."

Thankfully, Strong and her family are safe. However, this is a reminder to check the low-traffic areas of your home regularly. If you call out and the voice that answers is one you don't recognize, get out of the house and call the authorities.
