US-127, M-20 Among MDOT’s 7 US Highway-M Route Projects for 2024
If you're less of a fan or making good time and enjoy soaking in Michigan's scenic backroads then I have some good and bad news for you—the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is making an effort at improving your drive by rebuilding some of it's infrastructure.

That's the news, both the good and the bad. You probably hate getting caught in Michigan's construction traffic. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who enjoys it and if you do, that person is sick, and they need help.
It's also hard to find anyone who thinks Michigan's roads are just fine the way they are, which they aren't. Unfortunately improving our roads means ripping them out and replacing them with shiny new ones. This takes time and money. Lots and lots of money.
While Michigan's US Highways and M routes see a tremendous amount of commuter and tourist traffic, they also serve as the lifeblood for a slew of Michigan towns. That's what makes these paths so interesting.
Traveling on Michigan's M routes is one of the easiest ways to soak in what Michigan is about. Small towns with churches, gas stations, elementary and high schools, maybe a Subway or a McDonalds (sometimes both), ornate village squares, and ice cream shops.

With that in mind, MDOT takes every possible step to minimize the impact these road improvements have on the towns most impacted by construction, while also doing what they can to keep the flow of traffic moving at a favorable pace.
