Why This Year’s Deer Season Opener Could Be the Busiest Yet
Deer hunters across Michigan: the season is nearly here. The 2025 whitetail season officially kicks off on September 13 and 14, and with it, the woods will come alive (scaring away the deer you've been tracking all summer). While every season has its fans, expect this year's firearms opener to be one of the busiest November 15ths in recent memory.

Michigan's firearm deer season opening day is already a tradition, spectacle, and community event rolled into one, with buck poles and pots of chili waiting for hunters when they emerge from the woods with their harvested deer. But, if you haven't already, make sure to secure your hunting spot, because public and private land will be packed.
Why This Year’s Opener Will Be So Busy
In the event you haven't checked the calendar, November 15 falls on a Saturday this year. That means there are legions of hard-working Michiganders who, thanks to the weekend, don't have to take a day off to be a part of the tradition.
New Hunters Could Join the Tradition
But, this may also be a year where an entirely new generation is introduced to the sport, considering that most sports, including football, have the weekend off. Even if they were to consider taking a day off from school when the opener falls on a weekday, most teams won't allow you to play in a game if you miss a practice.
Get Your Hunting Spot Secured Early
A Saturday opener brings new possibilities for hunters old and new, without using any personal time off.
