Michigan Crime Watch: Alarming Statistics by City, Part One A-B
Each year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) analyzes data and delves deeply into the crimes committed in Michigan and nationwide. This article focuses on the completed analysis of some of Michigan's 424 cities and towns throughout 2021 and the individual types of crimes committed for that year, assigning each a category.

The FBI's annual crime report includes a vast amount of information; we'll focus on ten different types of crime: violent crime, murder-nonnegligent manslaughter, rape 1, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
Michigan Crime A-Z Part I: Annual Crime Analysis A through B, Addison to Burton
Looking at Michigan towns included in the FBI's crime report alphabetically, from A to B, the most violent town is Battle Creek, with 568 violent crimes reported in a single year. The next closest city for most violent crime, Ann Arbor, had double the population (122,893) and nearly half the violent crime (309).
Battle Creek leads the 53 cities focused on in this article for murder-nonnegligent homicide and arson, making it a city you may want to think twice before visiting after dark.
While similar studies only focus on large metropolitan areas, the FBI report examines things from a township level on up, shedding light on the amount of crime in Michigan's 'sleepy little neighborhoods.'
