Check Your Fridge: New Salmonella Recall Hits Michigan

Well, it looks like our refrigerators needed another homework assignment. This time, Michigan residents are on the lookout for jalapeños potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Keep in mind that just weeks ago, Taylor Farms de México recalled iceberg lettuce tied to a massive Cyclospora outbreak.

Michigan was the epicenter of the outbreak, with more cases than any other state, and two confirmed deaths.

Now Michigan Has a Salmonella Recall

Then, just as state health officials announced that Cyclospora had reached its peak, on August 9, 2026, Taylor Fresh Foods announced another recall, this time involving products made with jalapeños potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says the peppers came through Coast Citrus Distributors from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico. The broader outbreak has sickened 345 people in 27 states, including Michigan, with 36 hospitalizations and no deaths reported.

Here's the important Michigan refrigerator raid: the FDA lists Kroger Spicy Jarlsberg Dip and Kroger Spicy Pimento Cheese Dip, both 10-ounce containers with "Best If Used By" dates from August 7 through August 15, as distributed in Michigan.

So yes, apparently checking labels now includes minor background checks for your next meal. Taylor Farms says it is no longer sourcing from the grower and has not received reports of illnesses tied specifically to its recalled finished products.

The FDA says consumers in Michigan should toss recalled items immediately or return them for a refund. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with greater risk for young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
