Radaris, a public records database, recently mined data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to determine which state gets slammed with spam the most. The study analyzed calls made between 2018 and 2022, as well as over 5 million cases reported to the FTC's "Do Not Call Data Books", to reveal which state got the most spam phone calls.
Defining 'Spam' in Michigan
'Spam' happens everywhere we communicate outside of actual face-to-face conversations. Any unsolicited telemarketing call, whether live or robocall, is considered spam. Spam has also expanded into the realm of text messages, which only adds to the ways annoying telemarketers can work their way into our daily lives.
Michigan's Attorney General Dana Nessel isn't a fan of spam and is actively leading efforts in the state to protect Michigan residents from the billion-plus robocalls made each year.
'We've Been Trying to Reach You': Michigan's Spam Call Volume By the Numbers
While Michigan isn't #1 for spam call volume in the US, it's in the top 20. Between 2018 and 2022, just 4 years, the Mitten state residents reported a whopping 727,050 spam calls to the FTC.
