Well, here we are, Michigan. Another year, another brutal reminder that football is pain and Ohio is...still Ohio. After the Wolverines fell to the Buckeyes 27-9, Governor Gretchen Whitmer now has to send Governor Mike DeWine a care package full of Michigan-made potato chips. Because losing wasn't humiliating enough — now we're basically mailing Ohio our finest crunchy treasures like some kind of defeated snack tribute.

Before The Game, Whitmer and DeWine agreed to a wager involving potato chips — because if there's anything the Midwest does better than passive-aggressive border disputes, it's fried potatoes. Governor Whitmer confidently hyped the Wolverines before the match-up, noting their grit, swagger, and the fact that she's a mom of two U of M students — meaning she's personally endured enough tuition bills to earn the right to talk smack.

Whitmer offered up three glorious Michigan brands: Better Made from Detroit, Great Lakes Potato Chips from Traverse City, and Downey's Chips from Waterford. At least we're not sending them top-shelf chips from Uncle Ray's, because that would be taking it too far. Had Ohio lost, they would have sent Conn's, Gripp's, Jones', Mikesell's, and Marsha's Homemade Buckeyes.

A Loss, A Toll, A Snack Delivery

Thanks to Saturday's soul-crushing scoreboard, our beloved Michigan chips are now headed south, where Ohioans will undoubtedly enjoy them. So yes, Michigan must now pay the chip toll. But don't worry — we'll bounce back. We always do. And when we do? Ohio better be ready to send us snacks so inferior they can only be described as "very Ohio."
