Abandoned Roadside Stop: Smitty’s Family Fun Center, Lewiston
Taking roadtrips throughout our state can usually take you by some old roadside stop that makes you think, “I wonder what THAT used to be?” Well, this is one of those stops that you possibly wondered about.
It used to be Smitty's Place Family Fun Center in the Montmorency County town of Lewiston, at 2800 Bear Lake Road.
Trying to find info on this particular ‘Smitty’s’ isn’t easy, as there are a handful of other, different businesses in Michigan with that same name...but here goes...

The info I came across stated that the place was some kind of a roadside snack shack in the 1960s, serving A&W root beer and Papa Romano’s Pizza. Still visible is the go-kart track that wasn’t implemented until the 1990s. Same goes for the mini-golf, that was located a stone’s throw north from the go-kart track; satellite maps lead one to believe the mini-golf was on the same site of an old motel that was removed.
Inside Smitty’s were a few arcade games, the typical ones from the 80s...you know...the good ones.
The year when Smitty’s shut for good is unknown, but it appears to have closed before 2009.
