Former Michigan Football Staffer Sues University Over Sherrone Moore Records
A former University of Michigan football staffer is suing the school over records connected to the investigation into former head coach Sherrone Moore.
Former Michigan Staffer Files Lawsuit
Paige Shiver, who previously worked as Moore’s executive assistant, filed a lawsuit in Washtenaw County Court. Her attorneys say the university improperly denied several public records requests between February and June.
What Records The Lawsuit Is Seeking
Those requests were tied to the investigation that led to Moore being fired in December. The lawsuit is seeking records connected to Moore’s conduct, his relationship with Shiver, and what the university knew during the investigation.
Why Sherrone Moore Was Fired
Moore was fired after the school said it found credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Shiver has said she reported the relationship to Michigan officials after it ended.
What Happened After Moore’s Firing
Moore was later charged in connection with an incident involving Shiver. He eventually pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges, including trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device. He was sentenced to probation and ordered to have no contact with her.
Shiver’s legal team says the university spent millions on an outside investigation, but has not released key records from it. The lawsuit is asking a judge to force Michigan to turn over those documents. It also seeks damages tied to alleged Freedom of Information Act violations.
The case adds another layer to what has already been a messy situation for Michigan football.
What This Means For Michigan Football
For fans, this is not about what happened with Moore. It is also about what the university may have known, when it knew it, and why those records have not been released.
Michigan has not publicly commented in detail on the lawsuit. But with this now heading into court, the story around Moore’s firing and the university’s handling of it is not officially over yet.
