
Michigan’s 10 Best Private High Schools for 2026 Revealed
Every year as back-to-school time approaches, a significant number of Michigan parents begin exploring alternative educational opportunities for their children.
Whether they're tired of public schools or simply hoping to give their child a "leg up," moms and dads often spend some time researching private schools around the state this time of year.

The school-rating website Niche is out with its 2026 list of the "Best Private High Schools in Michigan," and while several of this year's top ten are in the Metro Detroit area, there are some notable outliers.
10. Spring Vale Christian School, Owosso
Spring Vale Christian School in Owosso ranks as the 10th best private high school in the state.

According to Niche, tuition for high school students at Spring Vale runs around $13,000 a year.
9. Steiner School, Ann Arbor
The 9th-ranked private school in Michigan is the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor.

With fewer than 100 students across all grades K-12, the student-teacher ratio here is 2 to 1, according to Niche.
8. Frankel Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit, West Bloomfield
Frankel Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit ranks as the 8th-best private high school in Michigan, according to Niche.

It's located in West Bloomfield and has "A+" ratings for academics and college prep.
7. Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills
Bloomfield Hills is one of the most affluent communities in Michigan, and as such, it's no surprise to see multiple private schools from the city landing in the state's top 10.

Academy of the Sacred Heart comes in at #7. It's top-rated for academics and clubs/activities according to Niche, and is the best-rated Catholic high school in Michigan.
6. University Liggett School, Grosse Pointe Woods
University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods ranks as the 6th-best private high school in the state.

According to Niche, 99% of students who graduate from here go on to attend a 4-year college.
5. Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen
One of the few private high schools in Michigan's top 10 that is not in Metro Detroit is 5th-ranked Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen.

According to Niche, annual tuition and boarding for this school runs a little over $80,000.
4. The Roeper School, Bloomfield Hills
The Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills ranks as the 4th-best private high school in Michigan, according to Niche.

Its highest ratings come from its academic programs and college prep.
3. Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills
Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills ranks #3.

It gets "A+" or "A" ratings from Niche in everything from academics and college prep to its faculty, clubs/activities, and diversity.
2. Greenhills School, Ann Arbor
You knew Ann Arbor had to have some sort of representation on this list, right?

Greenhills School ranks overall as the 2nd-best private high school in Michigan. As far as STEM schools go, it's #1.
1. Cranbrook Schools, Bloomfield Hills
Cranbrook Schools rank as the best private schools in the state.

This Bloomfield Hills school has "A+" ratings for its academic programs, teachers, clubs/activities, and college prep.
