What We Want to See at the Old Cheezy D’s in Haslett
I was out in Haslett running an errand the other day and drove by the old Cheezy D's at the corner of Lake Lansing and Marsh Roads. And I wondered to myself, "why hasn't anything come of this place?"
Cheezy D's Deli & Dogs had a beloved but brief chapter in Haslett's food history.
Do You Remember Cheezy D's in Haslett?
It was open for less than two years before it closed on December 19th, 2021. During its short stinit, Cheezy D's served up some delicious glizzies, loaded tots, and ice cream.
The owner took to Facebook to announce the closure, citing a whirlwind of reasons—Covid struggles, personal health, and the demands of family and farm life.

The post wasn’t all doom and gloom, though. It hinted at a potential new owner, described as an “amazing young Chef.”
But fast forward to today, almost three years later, and Cheezy D's is still sitting empty, with no signs of life. Well, expect for the same Cheezy D's signage, that is...
So, what’s next for this prime real estate?
The Haslett and East Lansing community would love to see something fresh and fun take over—maybe another ice cream shop? Maybe a cute, little diner for breakfast or coffee and pastries? For now, though, the building remains a quiet reminder of what was, with its old Cheezy D's signage still standing tall. Rest in peace, Cheezy D’s, we’ll miss you!
