These Are the 10 Most Common Street Names in Michigan
Ever wonder what the most common street names in Michigan are?
I don't know about you, but sometimes it seems like no matter where I go, there's a Grand River Avenue. Grand River's got to be one of the top ten most common street names in Michigan, right? Nope.
Michigan Avenue shows up in a lot of cities - but it's not one of the ten most popular street names in the state either.

How Were the Most Common Street Names in Michigan Determined?
The Washington Post crunched data from every county in every state in the union, looking for patterns.
For instance, a lot of places have North Main Street and South Main Street. Roads like that were counted as one street - Main Street. If a road dead-ended into a park, but continued on the other side with the same name - it just got counted once. There are several more idiosyncrasies in the methodology - you can check out all that here if you want.
What Do the Most Popular Street Names in America Have in Common?
When looked at as a whole, national street name data reveals some interesting observations.
Trees, numbers, and presidents are the most popular names for streets, which is understandable. These are practical, unoffensive choices. Surnames are common too; parts of the list look like a phone directory from Plymouth Rock. Or else we name our streets after landmarks: Hill... or School... or Airport.
Here in Michigan, none of our top ten most common street names come from our presidents. As a matter of fact, only two are numerical. We do seem like to name our roads after trees, however.
