We have another closure to tell you about, and this one is happening soon.

According to East Lansing Info News, East Lansing's original Starbucks location is permanently closing.

When is the Downtown East Lansing Starbucks Closing?

This Starbucks, located on Grand River Avenue at Charles Street in Downtown East Lansing originally opened in 1999. Now, it's closing for good on Sunday, August 31. This was confirmed by the manager, Cody Seelye, on Thursday, August 28.

This location was announced in March 2025. Although it's likely plans for this Starbucks have been in the works since December 2023, when an application was sent in for special use permit for the drive-thru.

When is the New East Lansing Starbucks Opening?

It's opening soon, too. The Grand Opening is on Tuesday, September 16.

That corner of Grand River Avenue and Charles Street is particularly empty now, as the former No Thai! that was right next to that Starbucks closed in May this year.

There was never any official word as to why No Thai! closed, but some think it's because the rent has become too high for local or non-chain establishments to compete. Only time will tell what will become of those business spaces.
