Popular Lansing Cuban Restaurant Opening New East Lansing Location

Lansing's food scene continues to grow with another new restaurant to add to the list!

Get ready for the opening of a new eatery across from Michigan State University's campus.

La Cocina Cubana is opening a location in Downtown East Lansing.

If that name sounds familiar, it's because this will be the second restaurant for Iliana Tamayo, who owns La Cocina Cubana in Downtown Lansing on Washington Square.

When and Where La Cucina Cubana Opening in East Lansing

This location is called, Cuban Cuisine. If you're excited about the opening of this new restaurant in East Lansing, we don't have to wait long; the restaurant is expected to open on October 18.

La Cocina Cubana serves authentic Cuban cuisine, made from scratch. The Cuban sandwiches, fried plantains, and croquettes are all popular dishes.

When it does open, you can find it at 219 E Grand River Avenue, right in the heart of Downtown East Lansing. Those familiar with that area may remember the former Capo's Cheesesteak Hoagies & Grill at that location, which opened in November 2021. There's no word on when Capo's closed, but a recent Google Maps image shows 'For Rent' signs in the window as of August 2025.

More Restaurants Opening in the Lansing Area

The second location of La Cocina Cubana adds to an ever-growing list of restaurants that are poised to open in the greater Lansing area over the next year or so. Specifically, East Lansing has at least two new eateries coming to town: RJ's Burgers & Ice Cream and Eiffel Waffle.
