People love to hate on Saturday Night Live. How it's "not funny anymore", or "not as good as it used to be".

It's hard to argue with the show's longevity though. SNL just launched into its 48th season of entertaining late-night viewers in the middle of the weekend.

Since 1975, Saturday Night Live has featured more than 160 featured cast members, six of whom were born right here in Michigan.

Chronologically, here are the Michiganders who've made TV audiences laugh as members of the repertory or featured players of Saturday Night Live.

Gilda Radner was one of the original members of the Saturday Night Live cast when the show debuted in 1975. She was born in Detroit, and attended the University of Michigan before characters like Roseanne Roseannadanna made her one of the show's most popular cast members for its first five seasons. The world lost Radner to ovarian cancer in 1989 at the age of 42.

Though he might have never become as well-known as some of his SNL contemporaries of the 1980s, A. Whitney Brown spent six seasons as a featured player on the show from 1986 through 1991. He was born in Charlotte, Michigan, and may be best known for his back-and-forth banter with then-Weekend Update anchor Dennis Miller. Brown would later become a correspondent with Comedy Central's The Daily Show.

David Spade

David Spade was born in Birmingham, Michigan, but left almost immediately. He was raised in Arizona. His biting, sarcastic sense of humor helped him land a spot on Saturday Night Live for six seasons, beginning in 1990. The show proved to be a springboard for Spade, who's had a successful TV and movie career.

Tim Meadows

Highland Park's Tim Meadows spent 10 seasons on Saturday Night Live beginning in 1991. He went to high school and college in Detroit. Recurring characters like "The Ladies' Man" and celebrity impersonations ranging from Sammy Davis Jr. to Oprah Winfrey made Meadows a fan favorite.

Tim Robinson

Tim Robinson was in front of the cameras on Saturday Night Live during the 2013-14 season. The Detroit native would take the unusual step of backing away from featured cast member status to writer for SNL after one season.

Like Robinson, Mike O'Brien spent just one season as a featured player on Saturday Night Live then returned to writing for the show instead of appearing on-camera. He was born in Blissfield, and majored in film-video at the University of Michigan before pursuing a career in comedy.
