The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget has decided upon this year's official state Christmas Tree!

Michigan's Official State Christmas Tree for 2023

Say hello to this 60-foot-tall spruce tree, hailing all the way from Onaway.

Onaway is a city in Presque Isle County, just south of Black Lake. And in the 36-year history of having official state Christmas trees, this will be the first time that the tree is coming out of Presque Isle County.

This tree has also been donated with a special person in mind; "Onaway resident Vic Ruppert and his family have donated the tree in honor of his late wife Shirley Ruppert."

When Will the State Christmas Tree Go Up?

The tree will arrive at the Capitol Lawn on Saturday, October 28th. However, we won't get to see it lit up in all its splendor until Friday, November 17th.

Friday, November 17th is a very special day too, because that's the day of the 39th annual Silver Bells in the City.

If you want to see the tree lighting, Silver Bells kicks off at 5 pm in Downtown Lansing and goes until 9 pm.

There's going to be an electric light parade, Santa, holiday shopping, yummy food offerings from restaurants, and more. The night will be capped off with the lighting of the State Christmas tree, a Firefly drone show, and a fireworks show.
