Now is definitely the time to start planning your fall foliage trip. But when should you plan it for? The answer to that question all depends on where you'd like to go within the Mitten State.

The northwest portion of the Upper Peninsula will start to see a significant change in mid-September. By late September, most, if not all, of Michigan will be covered in foliage that has changed by 20–60%.
Peak Fall Foliage Dates for Michigan
Here's when and where it's estimated that Michigan will have peak fall foliage:
- Western UP: September 27 - October 6
- Eastern UP: September 30 - October 8
- Northern LP: October 2 - October 11
- Central LP: October 6 - October 16
- Southern LP: October 12 - October 22
So whether you want to head to Copper Harbor, Saugatuck, Traverse City, Port Huron, or Detroit, you know exactly when to head there for peak fall colors.
